Book Club

A fresh chapter is about to begin... the bookshelves are stocked, the fireplace lit, and the table set.

Join us each month at Lime Wood for a relaxed evening of good food and even better conversation, as we welcome some of the most inspiring food authors to the New Forest for our Book Club series.

Hosted by award-winning food writer Mark Diacono, and the whole Hartnett Holder & Co team, these evenings are a chance to go beyond the page, digging into the stories and kitchen secrets behind each author’s work. Expect honest chat about their writing and creative process, insight into the experiences that shaped their careers, and what really fuels their love of food, all wrapped up in an evening that feels more like a dinner party than a panel talk.

Naturally, there’ll be a generous helping of Hartnett Holder & Co hospitality: nibbles and a cocktail on arrival, followed by a two-course seasonal supper inspired by the guest, with wine to match.

Come hungry - for food, stories, and proper kitchen chat.

A Celebration of Food, Writing & Conversation at Lime Wood

With Mark Diacono & Special Guests

Book Club with Tom Parker Bowles

Tuesday 22nd September

We’re delighted to have secured award-winning critic and food writer Tom Parker Bowles to open our autumn series of the Lime Wood Book Club this September. For anyone who follows food, restaurants and the people behind them, Tom needs little introduction. Restaurant Critic for The Mail on Sunday, monthly columnist for Country Life and a regular judge on BBC’s MasterChef, Tom has spent years at the heart of the food world. His trademark wit, curiosity and wonderfully direct opinions promise to make this a rather unmissable Book Club.

His latest and ninth book, Cooking and The Crown, takes us on a journey through more than 150 years of royal food, bringing together gastronomy, history and a wonderfully eclectic collection of recipes. From Queen Camilla’s porridge and George V’s curry to royal picnics, afternoon teas and coronations, it reveals the surprisingly varied tastes behind the crown.

Book Club with Honey & Co

Wednesday 21st October

We’re excited to bring our friends Itamar Srulovich and Sarit Packer of Honey & Co. to Lime Wood for our October Book Club. Since opening their first restaurant in London in 2012, the pair have built a much-loved food world of their own, from restaurants and delis to a bakery, café, podcast and a string of acclaimed cookbooks. Their food is generous, vibrant and full of personality, much like the two people behind it.

Their latest book, Honey & Co. Daily, is a celebration of the food we actually want to eat every day: flavourful, seasonal and achievable without spending hours in the kitchen. Inspired by the menu at their Store Street café, it brings together more than 100 recipes, from fragrant soups, shakshuka and za’atar chicken schnitzel to one-pan lamb and pappardelle, tahini and preserved lemon cookies and speedy cocktails.

Itamar and Sarit have spent more than a decade creating places where food, hospitality and community come together, with a particular talent for making simple food feel anything but ordinary.

Book Club with Rick Stein

Wednesday 11th November

We’re thrilled to welcome Rick Stein to Lime Wood in November. A familiar face to food lovers everywhere, Rick brings 60 years of cooking, stories and experience to the table, and there’s certainly a lot to talk about.

This October sees the release of Rick Stein’s Cookery Course: Recipes and Techniques from a Lifetime in the Kitchen, a book that brings together the knowledge, techniques and recipes Rick considers essential after a lifetime of cooking. Alongside revised classics and plenty of new recipes, it’s packed with the things Rick thinks we should know and a few he thinks we can probably stop worrying about.

Expect a relaxed, lively conversation that goes beyond the recipes, delving into the places, people and experiences that have shaped Rick’s cooking over six decades. There’ll be plenty of kitchen wisdom too, from the techniques he swears by to the things he’s learned along the way. Come hungry, curious and ready for a few stories from one of Britain’s most beloved food figures.
