The Lowdown with COSSIE+CO

23 March 2023

At Curated we love COSSIE`+CO, not only is the swimwear stylish and luxurious (thanks to the signature honeycomb fabric) the yarn is created from plastics that are taken from depths of the sea and for each kg of fibre produced, one kg of plastic is removed from the ocean.

We dived in for a chat with the founder Isobel, who created the brand back in 2018 to find out more…

Tell us a bit about COSSIE+CO and how it came about?

My career has been in fashion since I left university, working for big brands in both NYC and London. I always had a bit of a thing for swimwear, I felt (and still feel) that it’s an item of clothing that is really underrated. Swimwear is a little like being in underwear, however, it’s worn at the beach or pool and therefore it’s more on display! It can evoke a feeling self-consciousness, I really wanted to make swimwear that made women feel good and confident. I realised there was a gap in the market for feminine, luxurious, and fun swimwear that didn't break the bank. I set out to create a COSSIE that looked and felt good but also stood up to the realities of life as a modern woman.

Who is COSSIE+CO made for?

COSSIE+CO is for anyone and everyone. Our signature honeycomb fabric has the most amazing support and hides all the lumps and bumps. The double lining across every style gives an element of natural support and a super luxurious feel. Our customer completely varies from young to old, we have just introduced a mini-me range too so we really do appeal to all.

Tell us a bit about your products and how they are made?

All our COSSIEs are made from our signature textured honeycomb fabric which is sourced in Europe. Each style is fully lined with the same material inside and out, giving an element of support and a luxurious feel. Our material is made from recycled polyamide fibre, the yarn is made from plastics that are taken from the depths of the sea. For each kg of fibre produced, 1 kg of plastic is removed from the ocean. In the production process, 40% of water consumption, 50% of energy and 60% of CO2 emissions are saved.

Why is sustainability so important to you?

Sustainability should be important to everyone these days and should be at the forefront of our minds when making purchases. It is definitely a process and hasn’t always been easy, but we are definitely on the long path to being a fully sustainable brand. We manufacture conservative size runs to minimise over-production and waste. Any leftover fabric is used for sampling or production the next season. We use recycled materials for all our packaging and we’re really strict with the amount of plastic that we use. Furthermore, we are proud to have partnered with Verdn, who are recovering kg’s of ocean plastic and restoring coral reefs for every COSSIE purchased from our Essentials Collection. Their impact is fully trackable after your purchase. Knowing our COSSIEs are not harming the environment but in actual fact are helping to reduce the amount of ocean plastics there are in the world, is something that makes us proud.

What makes your products unique?

We work tirelessly on our fit, we want women to feel their best. Our shapes are feminine and flattering but also functional and practical. We design our COSSIEs so you can say no to wedgies, to that ‘can you see my .....’ moment, no to a nip slip, and no to holding in your tummy all day. We say yes to jumping from the boat's top deck, showing off your water-skiing skills, going from beach to bar and only adding a pair of shorts and lots of gold jewellery.

Can you describe COSSIE+CO in three words?

Feminine, flattering and fun.

Have you got any exciting upcoming plans/projects?

We have got lots going on in 2023. All very exciting. Introducing new prints and new styles. New collaborations. Plus, our mini-me range which is adorable!

Pop by Curated to take a look at our COSSIE+CO costumes…
