Shelina Permalloo wowed TV judges of BBC’s MasterChef in 2012 and won the TV show with over 6.5 million viewers with her spicy and exotic street food dishes of Mauritius. A Lime Wood local, Shelina was born in Southampton to Mauritian parents and has now come back to her roots!

Since winning the show in 2012 Shelina has been involved with many foodie projects, including working with big name brands, appearing on popular TV shows such as Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch, ITV’s This Morning and as a guest judge on Masterchef and releasing 2 of her own Mauritian cookery books.

In April 2016 Shelina opened up her first restaurant ‘Lakaz Maman Mauritian Street Kitchen’ in Southampton, UK.

Lakaz Maman means ‘Mum’s House’, an ode to the inspiration behind her cookery success and the restaurant focuses on Modern Mauritian Street Food.  

Shelina, originally from the city, says she wanted to bring back her trophy and do something special for the Southampton food scene.

"There's so much emphasis on the food scene in London but being from Hampshire there's so much to celebrate, I wanted to come home and do something special in the city."

The MasterChef titled ‘Mango Queen’ will be bringing you sunshine on a plate on Saturday 3rd March at HH&Co Backstage.

Shelina will guide you through a handful of her classic recipes, some from her new book ‘The Sunshine Diet’ which is full of exotic recipes that are simple to create and are packed full of flavour and fragrance.

You will then tuck into a Mauritian feast for lunch, all cooked by you and your fellow chefs!

If cooking is your thing, then why not experience what it really is to be in our Guest Chefs’ kitchens, with a day with them at HH&Co Backstage, the cookery school.

Shelina will lead a cookery workshop; a combination of demonstration and practical cooking held in our state-of-the-art cookery school kitchen, including lunch.

Tickets - £210 per person, includes lunch, a HH&Co Backstage apron, recipe pack and book.
