“Bread feeds the soul and the body. I could be happy living on bread and water."

On Thursday 7th of March 2019, baker extraordinaire Richard Bertinet takes over the HH&Co Backstage kitchen; after a day with Richard you will never ‘knead’ to buy another shop-bought loaf again!

Richard certainly knows his baguettes from his bagels, his brioche from his boule; originally from Brittany in north-west France, Richard has over 20 years’ experience as a chef and baker, starting his training at the tender age of 14.  Having moved to the UK in the late 1980s, he started cooking and his catering background included stints at the Chewton Glen Hotel, as head chef at both the Rhinefield House Hotel in the New Forest and the Silver Plough at Pitton.

He moved to Bath in 2005 to open the Bertinet Kitchen cookery school, and later The Bertinet Bakery, now providing the city of Bath with freshly baked bread daily!  In 2010 he was voted BBC Food Champion of the Year.

Richard has published a number of immensely popular books including Dough, Crust, Cook-in a class of your own, Pastry and Patisserie Maison.

Pastry sweet, salted and choux and batches of golden-brown buns, bubbling olive-oil dough and the glistening top of a tarte tatin are just some of the treats that can be expected at Richard’s Bath-based cookery school, and you can expect just as much floury fun from his workshop with us at HH&Co Backstage.
